Recommendations from Womens safety & justice task force

Queensland’s consent laws and anti-sex employment discrimination may be strengthened following recommendations made in a recent Women’s Safety and Justice taskforce report.

The second hearings report, Hear Her Voices, which highlights women and girls’ experiences of the criminal justice system, was delivered on Friday morning by Honourable Margaret McMurdo AC. The report, “Hear the Voices of 252 survivors”, made 188 recommendations, including education campaigns to address the rape myth.

Key recommendations also included changes in Queensland’s police services, encouraging survivors to report incidents of sexual abuse, restricting the number of time women and girls could spend being held at the Watch House, and creating an independent Victims Commission.
